What exactly is a symbolic wedding?

A symbolic wedding is a purely symbolic, individually designed ceremony that reflects the couple's personal wishes. Unlike a traditional wedding ceremony, there are no fixed guidelines —instead, your wishes, creative ideas, and special rituals can be incorporated.

The design options are diverse: Whether a solemn ceremony in a classic setting or a romantic and playful atmosphere – everything is possible. Couples with different religious backgrounds also have the opportunity to incorporate their traditions and combine them harmoniously.

Here is a possible outline for inspiration:

The guests take their seats
Entrance of the wedding couple
Personal wedding speech
Individual ritual: mutual declaration of love, filling a time capsule, planting a tree, blessing the rings, etc.
Marriage: mutual vows and saying "yes"
Exit of the wedding couple

All of these elements of the non-religious wedding ceremony can and should definitely be accompanied by atmospheric music.

How much does a symbolic wedding cost?

In Switzerland, the fees for wedding celebrants/officiants vary greatly depending on the region, type of ceremony and experience of the celebrant.

My fee of CHF 1,750 includes the cost of a German ceremony, in Switzerland (up to 100 km from Jonen AG). If a foreign language is required or the ceremony takes place more than 100 km away, a customized quote will be prepared. I usually spend between 30 and 35 hours on each ceremony.

What else do we need?

For the ceremony itself you will need:

a suitable location
optionally a singer or musician
decorations and flowers as desired

For the celebration afterwards, you should plan for:

a location for the aperitif, meal and party
matching decorations
catering
wedding cake
musical accompaniment by a DJ, a band or other musicians
